Friday Favorites

And this week's FFs (Friday Favorites) are….

- our super warm pellet stove- because we live in the frozen north where spring doesn't seem to exist yet.

- our super high powered blender that someone donated to us years ago. It's so super strong that it has it's own breaker switch on the bottom. It makes the best smoothies- which, by the way, can't be enjoyed in the presence of my 15 month old or he will drink it all.

And my top pick of all things I read this week:
- St. Patrick's breastplate prayer. This has been on my mind a lot lately because of two things- first, the girls are memorizing their list of prepositions in school, so each morning we can be heard chanting "aboard, about, above, across, after, against, along, among, around, at….."(those are just the prepositions that start with an A) and it makes me think of "Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ within me, etc. I also have thought about this prayer a great deal because of reading A Constant Prayer, which I mentioned last week. These old prayers that believers have prayer for generations are resonating with me deeply right now.

Women Are Scary (book review) Honestly, I was a bit skeptical of this book. I am not a fan of fluffy reads nor books that are overtly girly. It’s like the girly gab oozes through sometimes and I can’t handle the silly remarks. But, I was wrong. Melanie Dale is hysterical. I am a huge fan of clean, stand-up comedy and I was literally laughing aloud in my backyard while I read her book. While I sat with the kids outside, I chuckled through the first few chapters before I had to shake the sand out of the baby’s clothes and do tick checks. Melanie also found a way to win out past mom-to-three-exhaustion at night and I kept picking up her semi-scary covered book.  Woven in between her super funny stories, Melanie (I pretend she and I are on first name basis because she replied to my facebook comment about what “base” moms are on when they take over the kids’ trampoline) gets real with the fears and frustrations moms of all walks of life face when wanting friends.  Being a par

That's approximately 187 days since I blogged last. I have written and rewritten things to post, but I end up deleting them or changing my mind. I have waited for inspiration to write. When those fleeting moments have come, I usually didn't have my computer around to write, so the inspiration flitted away. Mostly, I have been tired and focused on other things. I have also been bugged by many bloggers lately and not wanting to lump myself in with the whole mess of them. I don't want to be pegged as one of the lame bloggers. When I first began blogging years ago, the goal was just to get used to putting myself out there. With time, I became (somewhat) used to posting my thoughts on things, lessons I learned about life and Jesus, and other topics. I would write and toss it out there for all to see. New Things Learned About CT

Things I have learned about Connecticut thus far: - Do not expect to finding a shopping cart in the grocery store, unless you either (a) pay 25 cents, refundable when cart is returned, or (b) grab a carriage from the parking lot. Do not use the term "cart". Nobody knows what that is here. - Expect to pay 60-70% more on most grocery items. - People own snowblowers, just as Virginians own efficient air conditioning systems. - Pay attention to the different prices on the sign at the gas station- one for the cash price and one for the credit card price. There is about a 10 cent difference. Lesson learned- keep gas cash in the car as much as possible. - I only have to drive 26 minutes to the closest Sams Club, which beats the 1 hour trip I made in VA. - There is a 30 cent (I think) fee for buying drinks in plastic, aluminum, or glass containers.
